Herman Renfors, Kajaani

This Reel apparently was made by a John B MOSCROP in ENGLAND .The reel was patented in1888 The unusual mechanism is called a "drum latch " drag control. Mr. Moscrop died in 1903.The reels were made in 3 sizes: 2 5/8 inch diameter, 3 inch and 4 1/2 inch. This one is the 3-inch. The reel is presented here to show the similarities of the following Herman Renfors reel.

Above picture Herman Renfors Kajaani, the brass one in the left imported in late 1880 due the Moscrop patent displayed with the earlier reel, the other two are from 1900 to 1926 The black being earlier version and it is not proven that it has actually produced in Kajaani, the later small size is for sure their own production. One of the reasons that lead to think that the brass one is not manufactured in Kajaani is the fact that it is missspelled KAJANA.
